Giving
This practice causes as much anxiety in our members as anything we do. But we teach that “giving” is a way of connecting to the Holy. Jesus taught that money is a huge distraction from spiritual health, unless we learn to subordinate money to God.
We ask church members to work toward giving 10% of their income to God’s work. Note well, most of us need to work toward this goal, perhaps by getting our own debt under control, by being sure to provide for our family’s needs, etc. Sometimes we simply cannot get there; but sometimes we can.
As part of rethinking our relationship to money, we recommend that members calculate their giving level - divide the amount they give by the income they make. That gives a percentage. Then we recommend trying to increase that percentage year by year.
